KEF Q250c Speaker

So the journey to upgrade my nearly 25 year old Accusound speaker system continues with the addition of the KEF Q250c as my new centre channel.

Late last year I replaced my ageing rear surround speakers with the KEF Q150’s and I was blown away. Previously the transition of sound from the main fronts to the rears was distinct. I could hear the acoustic change and it was jarring, especially with the move to Atmos. When I bought the Q150’s I wondered how much better it could really be. Turns out the answer is “a lot”.

Fast forward to today and listening to John Siracusa of The Accidental Tech Podcast talk about the importance of the centre channel. I’m thinking he might be on to something here, and I look into what I could get that’s not too disgustingly overpriced (although this is relative) to replace my own centre channel. I settle on the Q250c having already heard the benefits of the Uni-Q Driver Array in the Q150.

The main specs are as follows:

  • Frequency Response

    68Hz-28kHz (±3dB)

  • Maximum Output

    108dB

  • Nominal Impedance

    8 Ohms (min. 3.4 Ohms)

Not too bad for an $1100 speaker.

Am I impressed? Damn right I am. My family even claim to notice the difference as well, but I think they’re just telling me what I want to hear. But I can be assured there are no complaints, which is the best outcome I could hope for.
