Cult Of The Lamb

Happy Tree Friends

Cult Of The Lamb. Cute graphics. Adorable 2.5D art style.

But, like Happy Tree Friends, the initial cutesy images belie a darker undercurrent. This is a game about starting, running and growing a cult in your name for the purpose of serving your master that had you resurrected. And it will have you hooked

Like a member of a real life cult, I have been drawn in and enamoured by Cult Of The Lamb. It’s one of those games where there’s always something to do, whether it’s maintaining your cultist village, gathering resources from nearby locations, or progressing your task to take down the Four Bishops Of The Old Faith for your master The One Who Waits. This rogue-like is easy to pick up, but oh so difficult to put down.

You may be a benevolent leader, or you may use and abuse your followers to your own ends. They can gather resources, worship you, or accompany you on crusades. For some reason they can’t clean their own poop, leaving nuggets of fertiliser scattered around the landscape for you to discover. You can also sacrifice them to further your own power. Sometimes it’s just because of their poor toilet habits.

Tentacled sacrifice

While I’ve only so far managed to take down the first boss, I’m enjoying every moment of this game. The random rogue-like aspects can be affected by upgrades you earn as you progress, making every crusade you undertake unique and interesting. Relics Of The Old Faith is a free DLC that has just been released, making a great game just that little bit better. Getting this game is the best $AU35 you’ll spend, and you’ll be supporting an Australian developer too. Rating 9/10
