Lunch In Tirano
Taking a train to another country is something unheard of for an Australian. In fact, most of the time lunch in another state is an overnight affair. So towards the end of my European holiday, I took it upon myself to take a train, the Bernina Express no less, and travel south across the board to a little Italian town for a pizza, a glass of red wine and an espresso.
The train ride took me through the canton of Graubunden in Switzerland’s south east, tucked between the boarders of Austria and Italy. Departing at 8am I travelled through snow covered countryside to the warmer climes in the south. We also stopped at a 2000m train station (Bahnhof) where there was a flurry of snow fall.

Travelling through beautiful alpine countryside, we eventually crossed the boarder into Italy, and a short while later I was in Tirano.
Tirano old town
Of already spoken to my friend Eric about where to go, and he suggested a little restaurant tucked away just beyond the image above where I could get myself some authentic Italian pizza. And boy, I was not disappointed. After lunch it was a wander around the old town and back on a train north home to Switzerland.
