Queen Experience-Montreux

My best effort at replicating the cover of Made In Heaven

While travelling in Switzerland, I had the chance to stay overnight at Montreux on the way back from the HR Giger Museum in Gruyères. This was my opportunity to visit Freddie Mercury’s statue, featured prominently on the cover of Made In Heaven. I arrived late in the afternoon of the 14th of January, and of course, stayed at the Freddie Mercury Hotel near the train station. After checking in and dropping my bags, I eagerly went down to the foreshore in the dark to make my way to his statue. Little did I know that it had been recently moved to make way for renovations at the dock, and I discovered it in the dark quite by accident. I took a few photos, promising to return early in the morning before sunrise to try and get a photo as close to the cover of the album as I could.

Location of Mountain Studios

After that, I returned to the hotel for breakfast before checking out and heading to the Casino Barrière just up the road where Queen’s Mountain Studio was located. This was where their last albums were mostly recorded, and where Freddie made his last recording. Entry to the display is completely free, and it’s a treasure trove of memorabilia and artefacts from Queen. I also grabbed a souvenir coin from the machine outside because I love collecting those things.

Please enjoy the gallery below, that is a collection of album memorabilia, costumes, hand-written lyrics, and instruments from their performances.
